Here's one for you guys; My brother has an '09 Street Glide. He lives in the Sunshine state so he gets to ride all the time which translates to 40,000 miles so far. The bike is well maintained all scheduled services done by dealer. He doesn't race it or abse it what so ever. He sent me a photo yesterday of chucks of shiny metal. It's from his tranny. Seems a bearing in the tranny took a crap. The tranny is trashed. Harley isn't warrantying it. :wtf:

:angry:Hi Steve, Finnally found out what started my tranny problems. I don't know the proper name for it , but the small bearing that serves as the 'throwout bearing' was Gone, competelly destroyed, gone. I guess holding the clutch in and being in 1st(to quickly avoide cars rearending you at stop lights) isn't the thing to do in the Fl.heat.

Hope you have better luck than me. It may or not be : the combination of the Fla.heat, the lube I was using, too looselly assembeled, poor quallity control at motor co.. Who knows! Am going to use redline multi grade gear oil by my Indy's advice.

Don't remember what kind of oil you were using in your tranny?

I've used Red Line for years and never had an issue.

By the way the Sunshine state is California :D

Yeah in fl you should run an oil with at least 100 SPF.

That bearing is tiny and generally goes bad when the clutch rod is adjusted too tight at the clutch pack

I have had a few disintegrate and never fubar the trans the bits are tiny
    Usually gets ground up

Some might have gotten into trap door bearings and jammed them up

As long as you had correct grade oil it should not be an issue

Is bike out of warranty period?

Yeah, Harley wouldn't warranty it. He's got 46,000 miles on it.

SO, When making that adjustment, Are you saying to leave a little wiggle room after making it touch down on the clutch pack before tightening the nut on it?

run it in just so it touches and you feel a lite drag the back it out a half turn out hold it and lock the nut . that is the spec out of the service manual.

Hey ALso: Glad I had new tires put on while tranny work was done ..My Indy discovered front wheel beerings getting bad. replaced them also(no Labor charge). 'All things happen for a reason' Because I had a trip to Bagby state park in Georga sched. and couldn't make it. Thinking about that front beering letting loose on I-75 !!! Not a pretty thought.:):)

Yeah sorry on road but that's the right way. If you have it too tight it will burn up that bearing
