Hey guys. I am looking into getting a stage 1 for my bike. I don't want to give the squealership anymore of my money so I want to do as much as I can on my own. I am Looking for pipes that will suite my needs, but am mainly interested in the proper avenue of installation and re-mapping.

Any input or websites that may walk me through this will be greatly appreciated.

    thank you all

Pipes are fairly straight forward to change, just select a quality system that includes stepped head pipes and avoid drag pipes or anything without baffles. There are many choices depending upon whether this is for a bagger, softail, or dyna.

Mapping is a whole other beast. There are many offerings for aftermarket tuners but I'm not a big fan of the SERT for tuning. If you can afford it the Thundermax or Fuelmoto version of the Power Commander.

+1 for Fuel Moto...you tell them what mods are installed on your bike and they send you a tuner pre programed for your bike,so it's just plug and play...:D

On my 09 StreetGlide I went with slip on mufflers & free flowing air cleaner. Did the SERT download. Big power improvement. 55k miles trouble free w/excellent gas milage

Thanks guys. i have an HD Blackline (softail). I really like Vance an Hines short shots. I did a little bit of research so, I also wanted to ask - with baffled drag pipes, I assume that there is no flowback problems? Also, I like the looks of them but am more interested in low end power. What is a good combo for this? Would rinehart slip ons be an option? What's a good option for air intake? How much are the chips?

    Thanks again.

Nice clean looking ride , as for pipes as long as they have baffles you should be good there , brand & sound are up to you , from what I here the thunder max is the best way to go , dig deep in your pocket But worth it , if not call fuel moto & talk to them there are real good & a good bit lower in price then T max

OK here's an idea for ya. You can call New Castle Harley Davidson in NEw Castle, PA. They supposedly took over a recently closed Zanotti HD, Butler, PA parts inventory. My self (95 cube Fatboy) and a buddy with a 103 SE Fatboy CVO ordered new old stock Screaming Eagle II slip-on Mufflers (you can't get them from HD anymore, technically they are not street legal.). They look like the stock ones you have, slash cut. (They also had them in Baloney cut ) But very little baffle and a great sound. Then call FuelMoto in Wisconsin. They will dial in a Power Commander to your bike setup (SE II mufflers, Less restrictive air filter, 103) and ship it out to you. You will have GREAT! performance like we do. Charlie46 is very familar with my bike and it's performance. FuelMoto does hundreds upon hundreds of dyno tunes and have the library of settings (maps) for Harley Engines and configuations. Can't go wrong! Price is excellent too.

Looks like the only tuner available for 2012 models is the Dynojet Power Vision...You might want to check into the Harley download or if you can run a stage 1 on the stock ECM if you don't plan on going beyond Stage 1....

    Dynojet Power Vision

Breather kits...listed below Ness Big Sucker, Screamin' Eagle or the S&S Stealth are probably your 3 best options

Looking at the Home page, down on the bottom left it says Not compatible with 2011/2012 Softails and 2012 Dyna's...yet anyway...
Don't these new bike's ECM's compensate for just a breather and pipes??
If so,I'd wait until the Mastertune was ready for the '11 &'12 Softails and maybe just do the download in the meantime...

My uncle has an '06 thunder Mountain Screamin Eagle. It's a beautiful bike w/ cams. He has Samson drag pipes on it- no baffles. The bike is carbed so obviously was re jetted...He claims it has stock air intake and that remapping is a rip[ off. He is an old school motocross die hard. The bike sounds unbelievable though...what gives.

Remapping is necessary on any EFI (fuel injected) model. Your uncle would be correct if your biker were carbureted, but your EFI in simple terms uses a map instead of jets to determine the proper mixture throughout all ranges of the engine's operation from idle to full throttle.
