Thinking about purchasing a tire changer, anyone have any suggestions? I have in the near future 3 tires to change, I have a guy that will dismount and mount for $20.00 a piece but I would have to drop them off then go back and pick them up. His shop is about a twenty minnutes from my house. I found one on ebay for $169.00 that would do the job. I figure in time it would pay for itself.

I myself have a 03 Ultra and a Boss, I work on a lot of HD'S at home in the garage. It's a way to pass time.

I'd buy it and charge a little to do others. Let it pay itself off.

Not a bad price, but sometimes you get what you pay for...some of them can be a bear to use and you'd hate to be changin' a buddies tire and scratch the wheel,or your own....The Cycle Hill is a good one from info I picked up when I was checking out getting one....

Yea if you can change out tires by saving yourself some money and even getting some extra cash to help pay for one man I would do it. Just done by a real cheap one like said as it can come back to bit you in more ways than one. Good luck with it. If you do windup getting one post up a pic here would love to see it. :)

At the price they charge for changing a tire here and other places if I had a tire changer I might do my own as well.

I am fortunate. I was able to find a place that does a mount and balance for $20. I was able to do my front and rear with American Elite for the price I paid the dealer to change the rear. Pulling the wheels is not all that difficult, but, if you have OCD you will get caught up in cleaning and waxing all of the stuff you can't normally get to with the wheels on.

My Indy charges $30 per tire,Mount, balance and stem. I think that's a bargain. Especially for those thick walled American Elites.

That's why I didn't bother getting one,got a buddy with a shop and beer fridge 10 miles away... $40 for 2 tires and 2 beer...tough to beat that...If I go to the dealer to get it done,I'd have to buy the tire's from him(dealer) and $80/hr for installation:eek: I'd have one then;)

It's not the price of the mounting, it's the twenty min. ride each way twice that bothers me. Changing the tire is not that big of a deal. Balancing might be a different deal I use balance beads in my own ( I know there are mixed feelings on that so if someone wants something else they can chase the tire around on there time). I can still take it off the bike and put it back on.

heck it's a 20 minute drive here to either dealer, with tolls LOL

If it works for ya good nuff, be sure to get all the things
you need to properly remove and install the tires, and you'll want
some scratch saver poly blocks to get between tire irons and rims
last thing you want to do is nick some guys $1500 PM wheel and
end up with a big bill...

Tolls are not bad, if I dont' take a toll road I''m not paying for it
so if I want to get moving fast and drop a few bucks to get there
    I pay the toll trolls,

Toll roads are way nicer than state or federal highways, they are clean, litter free
no broken down cars, well maintained no pot holes...

Based on the care for the roads a private road is way better than a government road

I would want a air operated changer.
Then you also need a compressor
Then you have a way to break the bead loose and take the tire off and put a new one back on
Then you still need a tire balancer
Unless you have a lot of tires to change, you are bored and tying up yer time if you do it for 20.00 a tire
Not to mention the space it takes up

We have no toll roads on any road system. Our Interstate freeways are clean with no broken down cars (cops tag em) they get towed. Any trash is cleaned up by inmates at the county jails. Our state roads are the same. There are state run rest areas at 40-60 miles apart on the Interstates and you can even find them on state run highways. County roads can have a few pot holes but usually they will get fixed especially larger ones but for the most part the county roads are very good. We try and stay off the Interstate freeways as they are just not much fun (boring). We like the curvy mountain roads or riding to the coast or even riding along a winding road that follows one of the many rivers here.

Course riding with a great group of friends is always great.
