I have a 1991 Sportster 1200 that backfires when I try to start it. Here is what happened:
I started it I was on my way to work drove about 15 miles everything is fine at this point I had to to turn it to reserve as I always do (little peanut tank) I pull into the Shell station fill it up, turn the peacock back to on take off for the rest of my ride to work everything is fine for 6 miles then I get behind this car going a little slow so I crack the throttle and pass the car about a mile later I could fell the bike surging a little, then a little worse, then a lot worse then it was dead. So I get it home it is getting plenty of fuel so I pull the spark plugs put in new ones try to start it and every so often it back fires. I'm leaning toward a trimming issue but don't know what to look...

2001 heritage softail classic vibrating apart. terrible vibration in front floorboards, engine and tank. The light bar that holds the front turn signals and passing lamp has broke in the same spot three times now, left side where the lights conect. the tank vibrates so much the ignitions swith popped out, and it has recently cracked the oil tank. cant even afford to ride here anymore because too expensive to replace the parts. have had front wheel checked and it is good. was told it might be the counter balance bearings going out, but was told that is a major job to replace, and i should just get a rebuilt motor. I am on a tight budget and looking for advice or ideas of what my problem might be..

Wife and I along with another couple and Maddog took a long ride today. No freeways just back Mountain roads and Hwy 20 then Hwy 26.
Clackamas River and road
We went up the Clackamas river to the the top then down into city of Detroit Lake. Great ice cream stop.
Followed Hwy 20 and 22 into Sisters Oregon
Passing up Three Finger Jack mountain
Then MT Washington
MT Jefferson
Then into the Town of Sisters, pretty cool little tourist town.
As we were leaving and riding towards the town of Remond there was this fantastic view of the
three Sisters Mountains behind us.
Stopped in the next town up called Madras and had a early dinner at...

I've noticed my front end has a slight tendency to pitch and dive a little when cornering at higher speeds. This only occurs on long sweeping curves that I can hit at about 70 mph at get a good lean on the bike. Its not real severe, but it is unsettling enough to cause me to back off the throttle in order to maintain stability. Anybody else ever experience something like this?
